FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - ‘The Jungle’ is ready for a new season of Komet hockey.

Monday, the Komets hit the ice for the start of their training camp. The team hosted its annual media luncheon in the afternoon, before players got ready for an afternoon practice.

The Komets roster has undergone significant overhaul over the last few months, and coach Ben Boudreau has a short amount of time to get all of these guys on the same page. He said he’s used to that challenge.

“We’ve always stared training amp on the same Sunday,” Boudreau said. “We’ve got four full days to prepare, and we’re going to add guys throughout the week, too. We’re going to have to continue to hit the message, but for us we wanted to get the basics in play, and what our culture’s about, and day one is all about setting the pace.”

Monday, Komets president Michael Franke also shared some sober news, the death of the team’s original captain, George Drysdale.

The Komets will play an exhibition at Wheeling on Friday night. Fort Wayne hosts the Nailers in a second exhibition contest on Sunday at 3pm.

The regular season begins with a game at Indy on Friday, October 21st. The following night, the Komets host the Cincinnati Cyclones in their home opener.
