FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Mild air sticks around today and Thursday before much chillier weather arrives for the weekend.

Today starts out on a milder note than the past couple of days as overnight lows only dropped to the low 40s. Like yesterday, however, sunny skies will warm us up quickly, with temperatures reaching the mid 60s by noon and into the low to mid 70s by the afternoon. Skies stay mostly sunny for most of the day before clouds increase somewhat by the late afternoon and evening hours.

Cloudier skies tonight help temperatures stay a little higher. Lows will be in the mid to upper 40s.

Skies will be partly cloudy throughout much of Thursday, with somewhat frequent peaks of sun. Highs return to the low 70s. Late in the day, a few light showers are possible ahead of a cold front. These are most likely from 6PM to midnight.

Behind the showers, temperatures plummet Friday. Highs will be about 15° cooler, in the mid 50s! Friday night into Saturday morning brings our best chance at a widespread frost and possible freeze so far this season.

Warmer weather is on track to return next week, but at least the first half of the week looks set to still bring slightly below average temperatures.
