Grant Me Hope: Meet Mikko
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Each Sunday, ABC21 introduces you to kids in the foster care system through our partnership with Grant Me Hope.
ABC21 collaborates with the Grant Me Hope organization, an initiative to find older foster children adoptive homes before they age out of the foster care system.
Hi, my name is Mikko, I am 16 and I’m in 10th grade. I like basketball and football. I play a little sports, I’m alright at it. I like having fun. I like being active. I’m an active person. Not all the time, sometimes I just want to be lazy, but you gotta do both. Most of the time I’m usually just outside walking around, doing stuff. I want to play sports in college but if sports don’t work out I don’t know what I need to major in. I think it is important to have a job because at a young age it’s money and you can have more experience than when you get a little older you can have more experience if you started younger. I applied for footlocker. It’s kind of wild that I even applied. At First I was hesitant because I was kind of scared cause I never had a job, I did work but never Had to apply for a job, just housework and yard work. That and one of my friends wanted to work at Footlocker because he saw some girl he thought was cute so I was like okay I’ll apply with you. My friends are cool. We go to the mall sometimes. Hang out. Usually they will come over to my house and we’ll chill, just mess around and have fun. Typical teenager stuff.
Getting adopted straight away out of the blue, you don't really know the people you never really talked to, you just go in there and they adopt you. It would be weird. I think it should be a process to talk more, get to know the person, talk more, hang out and then think about. I want someone who will put in the same effort as me 50-50 make it 100%.
