STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says two people are dead and a child remains critically injured following a crash there on Friday.

The department says first responders were called to the area of SR 120 near CR 850 W in rural Milgrove Township on reports of a crash with injuries around 4 p.m. on Aug. 5.

When crews arrived, they say they found four injured people inside one car and another injured person in a second car. Police say they believe 50-year-old Donald Gene Squires of Howe was driving his truck on SR 120 from CR 850 W when he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a car nearly head-on.

33-year-old Breanne Jeanne Bright of Fremont, the front passenger in the car that was struck, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of that car, 43-year-old Lonnie Bright, was taken to the hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead on Aug. 8.

5-year-old Journey Bright and 3-month-old child Granger Bright, both in the car at the time, were also taken to the hospital with injuries. Granger has since been released but Journey remains in critical condition as of Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Police say Squires had minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
