FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) says officers are searching for suspects after a woman was shot along Illinois Road this afternoon.

FWPD Public Information Officer John Chambers says a disturbance was called in around 1:30 p.m. in the 1500 block Fenwick Place, in the Preston Pointe at Inverness apartments. Police were headed that way when they heard a shooting called out along Illinois Road, Chambers says.

He says a woman was driving east along Illinois Road with a man in the passenger seat when another car came up alongside them and fired shots at their SUV. The woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger was not injured. Several bullet holes were spotted on the driver’s side of the SUV.

Police say they believe the shooting is connected with the disturbance reported at the apartment complex. They say several people were involved in some sort of altercation there prior to the shooting.

At this time, police say they are searching for suspects in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the FWPD Detective Bureau at 260-427-1201
