FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The TinCaps faced some challenges on Tuesday, to say the least.

Fort Wayne fell in its series opener against South Bend 5-4, a fairly valiant effort considering what happened to the TinCaps roster earlier in the day.

The San Diego Padres pulled off a blockbuster trade on Tuesday afternoon, acquiring Juan Soto and Josh Bell from the Washington Nationals.

San Diego sent Washington six players in the deal, including TinCaps outfielder Robert Hassell III, the top-rated prospect in the Padres farm system.

Later in the day, the Padres announced another deal involving Fort Wayne players. San Diego sent Eric Hosmer to the Red Sox, along with TinCaps players Max Ferguson and Corey Rosier.

Both Ferguson and Rosier were in the original lineup the TinCaps announced for Tuesday night’s game.

Tuesday’s departures came after the TinCaps had lost starting pitcher Robert Gasser, in San Diego’s deal Monday for closer Josh Hader.
