FWPD: Man arrested in weekend stabbing
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) says they have arrested a 58-year-old man following a stabbing on Sunday morning.
FWPD says around 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 3, they were called to the 500 block of E Washington Blvd. to help a man that was lying in the roadway. They say they then found the man had been stabbed, and he was taken to a hospital in life-threatening condition.
On July 4, police say they arrested 58-year-old Michael Martin on a preliminary charge of attempted murder in the incident.
A probable cause document says surveillance videos show that the stabbing took place in a fenced-in area of dumpsters along E Washington Boulevard. The video shows two people lying under the dumpsters when the victim approached them, the document says. The video then shows Martin stabbing the victim in the chest numerous times, before gathering his belongings and fleeing the scene with a woman. The document says surveillance video shows Martin and the woman getting on bicycles and going east.
The victim was able to positively identify the suspect as Martin after police used a photo array, documents say. Police later found Martin riding a bicycle downtown that matched the same bicycle seen in the surveillance video, the probable cause says.
