Officer involved shooting leaves one suspect in custody
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - One man is in custody after a pursuit from Dekalb County ended in Allen County Saturday night.
The New Haven Police Department was dispatched to help with a vehicle pursuit around 7:14 p.m. Saturday night. The pursuit had come from Dekalb county and into Allen County.
Officers say they went to the intersection of Maplecrest Road and Lake Avenue to help stop traffic and attempted to deploy stop sticks.
According to police, due to actions by the suspect’s vehicle when it entered the intersection, two New Haven Police officers were forced to fire shots at the vehicle. The suspect continued on to a nearby neighborhood where the suspect, the only person in the vehicle, was taken into custody by the Fort Wayne Police Department.
Police say the driver was not injured, however, was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance. Once they are cleared, they will be interviewed by detectives and preliminary charges will be discussed.
The Indiana State Police was called in to run a parallel investigation as a protocol for all officer-involved shootings. The involved officers will be places on standard administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.
