FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Indiana Michigan Power’s (I&M) latest update Friday morning says about 2,400 customers remain without service--down from the initial 41,000 who were without power.

The company says those who are still without power are in Waynedale and southwest Fort Wayne where the derecho struck hard Monday night. They say they hope to have power back in the Waynedale area by 3 p.m. Friday. Crews have been working for four days to repair damage to its system that was caused by Monday’s severe weather that was followed by a heatwave.

“I&M understands the frustration and discomfort of not having power – especially air conditioning. I&M is using all available resources to restore power as quickly and as safely possible. I&M appreciates the assistance provided through city cooling centers and countless relatives, friends and acquaintances who have offered shelter,” the company said in a release.
