Near record heat again today
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Temperatures will rise again to nearly 20 degrees above average with the potential to break 34 year old records. Highs will be in the mid to upper 90s with temperatures feeling like they are well into the triple digits.
Extreme heat and humidity significantly increases the potential for heat related illnesses including heat stroke. Those particularly vulnerable are those working without air conditioning or participating in outdoor activities.
Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air- conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
Tomorrow will be hot with highs near 90 but it will not be quite as dangerously hot as today or yesterday. Temperatures moderate for the weekend. We’ll have the latest on how hot it is and the next chance of 90s coming up at 12 and 5PM on ABC21.
