Northrop alum Jordan brings NBA experience to new camp
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - NBA veteran Walter Jordan returned to his alma mater for the start of a new camp on Monday.
Jordan, the leader of Northrop’s 1974 state championship basketball team, launched the ‘Walter Jordan Future Stars Hoops & Standards Day Camp’ on Monday. The camp is for boys and girls basketball players form 11-17 years old. On Monday, Jordan estimated this year’s camp will include about 140 kids.
Although the camp will feature competition and basketball instruction, Jordan says his greater focus is on teaching leadership and life skills.
“I believe children can change the world,” Jordan said. “I believe it’s their turn. I believe they have the power to do it. I believe in today’s youth, but they’ve got to be told the right things.”
Jordan’s camp will run through Thursday.
