FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A high pressure ridge strengthens over the area today and tomorrow. This will cause temperatures to rise to near record breaking levels Tuesday and Wednesday.

Highs will be in the mid 90s with the potential for upper 90s or perhaps even 100° or more. Humidity will also increase which means it will feel like 100-110° during the afternoon and evening.

Extreme heat and humidity significantly increases the potential for heat related illnesses including heat stroke. Those particularly vulnerable are those working without air conditioning or participating in outdoor activities.

Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air- conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
