FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The City of Fort Wayne is giving residents a heads up about changes in trash and recycling collection this week.

The city says crews are focusing on garbage collection this week. For Monday, they say Red River crews are finishing garbage collections for Thursday and Friday routes and city crews are working on Monday routes.

They say recycling will not be collected this week. The City of Fort Wayne Solid Waste Department says they are hopeful that recycling collection will begin again next week with the “B week” recycling schedule. They say residents may want to bring recycling bins in until regular collection starts again.

“Residents are asked to continue to set out garbage materials the night before their regularly scheduled day of pickup. We’ll do our best to provide the collection service as close to their regular day as possible. As often as possible, crews are collecting garbage on the evenings and on weekends,” the city said in a release.

Officials say it is likely delays could continue until GFL Environmental takes over the collection on July 1, just as they said in an update on May 31. Again, the city apologized for the delays and said they are using city workers to help Red River with collection until GFL begins.
