FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - For the second time in the history of the Blazers softball program, Eastside is bringing a softball state championship home to Butler. The Blazers defeated North Posey, 2-1, in the 2A state title game.

Small ball got the job done offensively for the Blazers, as both runs that were scored came off of squeeze bunts with runners on third. Lili Cline led off the bottom of the third inning with a stand-up triple. Jayci Kitchen then bunted her home. Then in the top of the fourth, Mataya Bireley made her way to third base after being hit by a pitch, and Grace Kreischer executed the squeeze play to perfection, bringing Bireley home.

Junior starting pitcher Natalie Lower was once again dominant on the mound for Eastside. Lower pitched a complete game and added five strikeouts. The defense behind Lower was phenomenal as well, as the Blazers made great play after great play to keep North Posey off of the scoreboard until the 7th inning. With two outs and the tying run on third base for North Posey in the top of the seventh, Lower got a come-backer and threw the final out over to first base.

Eastside finishes their historic season with a 29-1 record and a 2A state championship trophy. Brennen Kitchen wins a state title in his first year as head coach of the Eastside softball team.
