STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - An Orland man died and his wife was critically injured Tuesday when the motorcycle they were on collided with a sport utility vehicle.

The crash happened about 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of SR 120 and CR 300 W in Steuben County. Kenneth R. Steele, 74, was in control of the Harley Davidson motorcycle, headed east, with Janice Steele, 75, riding as a passenger.

The bike collided with a westbound 2003 Ford Explorer driven by 68-year-old Guy . Griffith, of Fremont, as the SUV turned south onto CR 300 W from SR 120. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office said the motorcycle struck the right front corner of the SUV.

Kenneth Steele died at the scene of the accident; Janice Steele was taken to a local hospital, then flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana by Samaritan helicopter. Janice sustained numerous injuries and is in critical condition. Neither was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, investigators said. Neither alcohol nor speed are believed to have been contributing factors.

The wreck closed the intersection to traffic for about two hours.
