SYRACUSE, Ind. (WPTA) - The body of a 16-year-old boy was pulled Sunday from a pond in Syracuse.

The recovery followed a report mid-afternoon that the child was missing in the water after falling from a rope swing, Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources said on Monday.

Witnesses said the teen did not surface after he released the rope and dropped into the pond. He was found by other swimmers in about five feet of water.

Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. Conservation officers are investigating his death, and the boy’s identity has not been released.
