MONROEVILLE, Ind. (WPTA) - One person died and several others are in the hospital after an house fire early Sunday morning in Monroeville.

Firefighters were called to the area near the 14400 block of SR 101 South shortly before 4:30 a.m. The Monroeville fire chief told ABC21 on the scene that he was uncertain if all of those at the residence are accounted for, but said several people were taken to the hospital. Their conditions were unknown.

Early Sunday afternoon, officials with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department confirmed one person was found dead in the rubble. It’s unknown if the person was a male or female, or how old the person was.

Crews remained on scene tending to hot spots and investigating the incident throughout the morning. There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.

The location of the fire is near Hoagland Road in southeastern Allen County.
