‘Bans off our Bodies’ rally planned for Allen Co. Courthouse Saturday
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates have organized several protests across Indiana as U.S. Supreme Court Justices consider overturning the landmark abortion access case Roe v. Wade--with one planned for Fort Wayne this weekend.
The “Bans off our Bodies” protest is planned for the Allen County Courthouse Saturday, May 14, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Last weekend in Allen County, dozens of people were at the courthouse for “The Choice for Mother’s Day Rally for Reproductive Justice and Freedom.” A second rally, also advocating for reproductive freedom, was held the day before.
Currently, there are a total of seven abortion facilities in Indiana. The current average distance to the nearest abortion clinic in the Hoosier state is 34 miles, and if abortion is banned, the distance jumps up to 129 miles, according to Stacker.
Numerous lawmakers in Indiana have pledged that they would push legislation on abortion restrictions if Roe v. Wade is overturned. WPTA reported in March that Hoosier Republicans in both the House and Senate wrote a letter to Governor Holcomb, asking him to call them back into session if the U.S. Supreme Court rules against all or part of Roe v. Wade.
