FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - About 50 positions will be lost when Frontier Communications closes part of its west-side Fort Wayne facility this summer, the company said in a formal notice to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

Those affected have received a 60-day notification of the job loss. For most, it will take effect between June 30 and July 14, documents show.

Frontier did not provide a reason for making what it called a “difficult decision” in the WARN notice, which is required when layoffs of a certain magnitude are involved, but noted that its “business needs have changed.” The company said it is working to offer employees other opportunities and is informing them of their eligibility for separation benefits.

The affected local facility is located in the 8000 block of West Jefferson Blvd.
