FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Someone is placing explosives inside trash and recycling receptacles in one Fort Wayne neighborhood and police want to know who is responsible.
At least three incidents have been reported recently in the area of North Anthony and Clara Avenue. In each case, a small explosion has been reported, damaging the container. Police say surveillance video has shown a silver SUV driving up to the cans, and someone lighting the explosive before driving off.
The hazardous disposal unit is investigating. Neighbors want it to stop before someone is hurt.
“Everybody in the neighborhood wants it stopped,” Thom Green told ABC21. “We want to go back to being our peaceful selves around here, not being bothered by anybody. Just leave us alone. We’re happy in the neighborhood. We’re happy with what we see and what we got.”
Green provided police with video that is being used in the investigation.
“There’s no sense to it,” he said of the vandalism. “What do you expect to gain from it?”
Police are looking at a person of interest who may be connected to the incidents.
