FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A federal judge on Tuesday granted the Government’s motion to keep the owner of a 24-hour downtown Fort Wayne restaurant in custody while he awaits a trial on felony drug and weapons counts.
The arrest warrant for Demetrius Bostic was issued following a year-long investigation that culminated in raids on six locations -- including the Lewis Street Grill -- and two vehicles, with drugs, cash and other evidence retrieved by a multi-agency law enforcement team. A detention hearing was set for Tuesday after the U.S. Attorney’s Office filed a Motion for Detention.
That motion called Bostic “a danger to the community and risk of flight.” The Court agreed, with the judge citing previous drug and weapons convictions for Bostic and the length of a sentence he could receive if convicted on the new counts. Judge Susan L. Collins also noted a past failure to appear in court and prior attempts to evade police in granting the Government’s request.
Bostic was recently appointed a federal public defender to handle his case.
