FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) says four children lost their lives in a fire at a mobile home park on the city’s northeast side.

The call came in around 8:30 a.m. Thursday for a fire at Dupont Estates Mobile Home Park, in the 4700 block of Grassy Lane.

FWFD Public Information Officer Adam O’Connor says four children in the mobile home were pronounced dead. Four adults were taken to the hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available. A release sent by FWFD says two pets also perished in the fire.

The release says crews battled hard and had the fire under control about 20 minutes after their arrival.

They say an adult and a child were able to evacuate, but a dog perished in the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Dupont Estates is a family-oriented mobile home park, with amenities including a pool, clubhouse and other child-friendly features. Units are individually owned and are not maintained by park ownership.
