FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - By a vote of 3-0, Allen County commissioners have passed a rezoning measure that clears the way for construction of an IU Health campus off Lower Huntington Road and just west of I-69.

The vote on Friday followed the recommendation of the Allen County Plan Commission earlier this year. It allows IU Health to build out a 137-acre area of land that would become its centerpiece medical facility in northeastern Indiana.

Some area residents have opposed the development, which is in a rural part of southern Allen County, along Ernst Road. Preliminary construction is already underway at the site.
