FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Power was restored shortly after 10:00 Friday night along Coliseum Boulevard after an earlier outage pushed authorities to send a mass alert asking drivers to avoid several busy travel corridors.

The notification was issued just after 8:30, with police asking drivers to avoid Coliseum Boulevard between Lima Road and Clinton Street. The notice also included Coldwater Road between Washington Center and Coliseum.

Traffic lights in those areas flashed red, confusing drivers who were not expecting it. While drivers are supposed to treat flashing red traffic lights as four-way stops, some disregarded that rule and proceeded through the intersection with abandon. They were often met with angry honks

An outage map from Indiana Michigan Power showed more than 1,000 people were without power around 9:00 Friday night on the city’s north side. It was unclear what caused the outage.
