ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - The first Republican candidate has announced his intent to file for the state’s 82nd house district.
Business owner Davyd Jones says he’s running on a platform focused on the economy, education, and healthcare. In a release sent to media, Jones says he sits on the board of several community organizations--including United Way and Turnstone.
The district 82 seat is currently held by Republican David Abbott, who as of this weekend, has not yet filed for re-election. Three Democrats have already turned in their paperwork to run. Jones is set to officially file this Wednesday.
District 82 used to represent mostly Noble County, but under the contentious new maps approved by Statehouse Republicans in October, 82 will now represent mostly downtown Fort Wayne. The maps faced intense criticism as diluting the influence of minority and urban voters in favor of white voters living in rural areas to bolster the election prospects for Republicans, the Associated Press reported.
