LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - A man was thrown from his car and killed in an accident on the Indiana Toll Road Saturday night, Indiana State Police said.

Troopers responded to the I-80/90 Toll Road at mile marker 128, in LaGrange County, about 8:30 p.m. to find a 2014 Buick Enclave on the shoulder of the westbound lanes, badly damaged. They located the driver, later identified as 67-year-old Daniel T. Olson of Sturgis, Mich., in a side ditch.

EMS personnel were not able to revive and save Sturgis, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the LaGrange County coroner.

A preliminary investigation shows that the vehicle was headed east, came into contact with a guardrail and then crossed through the grass median and stuck the inside guardrail of the westbound lanes. “The Buick crossed the westbound lanes, crashed into the outside (right) westbound guardrail, rolled over and came to rest on the westbound shoulder,” ISP said.

Olson was was the sole occupant at the time of the crash. He was not wearing his seat belt. Investigators do not suspect that drugs or alcohol were a contributing cause of the crash.
