Two dead in Sunday morning South Bend shooting
It happened on the city’s south side
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Two people are dead after an early Sunday morning shooting on the south side of South Bend.
It happened near Ewing Ave. and Franklin St. around 2:45 a.m.
South Bend Police Department said officers responded to the area on the report of shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers found 22-year-old ShaeLeigh Zeiger and 31-year-old Brandon Smith, both from South Bend, suffering from apparent gunshot injuries.
Despite lifesaving attempts by police and first responders, Zeiger and Smith were pronounced dead at the scene.
Their families have been notified.
South Bend Police Department officers secured the scene and a representative from the St. Joseph County Coroner’s Office was contacted.
The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is handling the investigation.
Several individuals have been interviewed. There is no known threat to the community, and at this time, the shooting appears to be an isolated incident.
Autopsies will be conducted in Kalamazoo, MI., and community/media will be updated when more information is available for release.
