FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - During a time of year when the weather gets a bit colder, construction projects are heating up across Indiana.

Construction experts say the increase in winter construction over the past decade is due in large part to climate change and new technology.

“A cold icy winter is going to make things hard no matter what, but a lot of the keys to that is making sure you have certain portions of the project completed up until when the weather start,” Carpenter’s Union representative Kyle Gresham said.

Gresham says it makes it easier to get jobs done throughout the year, instead of just in the summer time.

“The winters five years ago are similar to the winters now, but if it’s not iced over it makes it a little easier and it doesn’t slow us down and we can keep going,” Gresham said.

Several projects across Fort Wayne will continue over the winter like the “Electric Works Project” and “Downtown Riverfront Development.”

Gresham is hopeful that crews can get projects done ahead of schedule.
