Special prosecutor: No felony offenses in Churubusco student conduct investigation
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The special prosecutor assigned to a case focused on alleged student misconduct at a Churubusco middle school says he determined no felony offenses took place.
Huntington County Prosecutor Jeremy Nix accepted the case last week and said that after reviewing the case information from Indiana State Police, he found that those involved were all juveniles and none of the acts that were allegedly committed would be felony offenses if done by an adult.
He says those involved have been referred to the intake officer for preliminary questioning.
Nix added that no additional information is available at this time because those involved are juveniles.
On Monday, the Smith-Green Community Schools Board released a terse statement condemning “vindictive social media crusades based on falsehoods, half-truths and gossip” and expressing its full support for Superintendent Daniel Hile. The district has not said what specific disciplinary steps were taken on the school level, but noted that its own probe of the matter was led by two retired superintendents from outside the area.
