Fort Wayne council considers repeal of restrictions on strip clubs, similar businesses
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Admitting a previously passed ordinance did little good, councilors are considering repealing a set of rules governing strip clubs and similar businesses.
The reversal would means club owners will no longer have to follow strict rules on capacity, stage height and distance from customers if entertainers perform nude or semi-nude.
The measure would repeal an ordinance passed in 2019 that put those restrictions in place. The language in the new ordinance admits the previous measure was a failure.
The original rules, passed in 2019, imposed strict capacity limits, stage sizes and distances from customers if entertainers were to perform nude or semi-nude. Performers and business owners claimed the rules made it difficult to earn money and encouraged some customers to act inappropriately since the entertainers were clothed in more substantial garments.

The ordinance does not repeal the city’s definition of sexually oriented businesses or other longstanding regulations.
