FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - No one was hurt, but a single engine aircraft sustained damage when its engine fired during maintenance work and it accelerated into a pole near a fueling station at Smith Field.

The incident late Tuesday afternoon involved what Airport Executive Director Scott Hinderman described as a “vintage” Aeronca plane. Hinderman said an individual was turning the propeller by hand when the engine started up.

The plane struck the post with a wing, which -- along with the gear on the aircraft -- sustained damage. An investigation will determine exactly what happened.
