Third arrest in connection with alleged attempt to sell girl into marriage
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The man police say paid a family so he could marry a 13-year-old girl has been booked into the Allen County Jail on two felony counts.
Zee Kdee Ya is charged with Child Solicitation and Neglect of a Dependent endangering the girl. His first appearance in court is set for Tuesday, court records show.
Ya’s arrest follows the arrest of Se Dar Be and Sadid Mot, who police identify as the girl’s parents. The investigation itself dates to December 2020, when police responded to an event that they describe as a “wedding,” and at which they found the alleged victim wearing a dress, a veil and makeup.
She reportedly told police that “her parents had arranged a marriage for her and she didn’t want that.” A probable cause affidavit states that “she became engaged to Zee Kdee Ya and her parents signed the paperwork and that since then she had been staying with Zee Kdee Ya and sharing a room and a bed with him.”
The girl said she had rebuffed attempts at intimacy.
Be and Mot made their first court appearances Monday morning. Each is charged with a count of Child Selling and Neglect of a Dependent.
