FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A traffic stop evolved into a police pursuit on Saturday and ended with the arrest of an armed man who FWPD describes as a “serious violent offender.”

The stop took place about 3:40 a.m. near Coliseum Blvd. and Harris Road in Fort Wayne. Officers noted a Dodge Durango driving along Coliseum without its headlights illuminated, and they pulled the vehicle over.

According to police: A passenger from the vehicle, “identified as Macquille Woodard III, fled the scene. After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend Woodard. Officers were able to locate a holster for a handgun as well as a magazine for a handgun on Woodard’s person. A short distance away, officers located a Taurus 9mm handgun.”

Because of his prior criminal history, charges against Woodard, 29, are enhanced to include Possession of a Handgun by a Serious Violent Felon, along with Resisting Law Enforcement.
