Salvation Army kicks off Red Kettle Campaign
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - You should expect to see The Salvation Army’s bell ringers outside Fort Wayne stores soon.
The Red Kettle Campaign launched today at Sweetwater with a goal of raising $237,000.
Organizers say the majority of their fundraising happens at Christmas time, but the funds don’t only support holiday programs. They say the money pays for the organization’s food pantry, utility and rent help, and other programs.
This year, they say there are new ways to give as each red kettle will accept Apple Pay.
“The kettles will always be around as long as there’s cash or coins,” Captain Kenyon Sivels said. “However, we do recognize and understand less people carry less cash, or any cash. And so we are excited to have a plethora of options where folks can give or folks can contribute. Again, this is the work of the salvation army. All the money stays here to support all the things we do throughout the entire year. Here to serve and help people.”
