Rape charge added in Lake James homicide case, documents say
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Court records show the 29-year-old man arrested in the murder of an elderly woman at her Lake James home is now facing additional charges.
Police arrested Matthew Hoover on Aug. 4 and preliminarily charged him with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of 82-year-old Wilma Ball on June 23.
WPTA21 previously reported that probable cause documents indicate police believed that Ball was sexually assaulted. Investigators also found stab wounds on her neck with several other injuries on her body.
Hoover was Ball’s former neighbor, documents say, and DNA left behind at the scene led police to his arrest.
Now, Hoover has been charged with rape, burglary, and abuse of a corpse, according to online court records.
He is set to appear in court on Monday for a pretrial conference.
