FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The man arrested in connection with the deaths of a woman and her three children faces the possibility of life without parole if he is convicted.

21-year-old Cohen Hancz-Barron is facing four counts of murder in the deaths of Sarah Zent, 26, 5-year-old Carter Zent, 3-year-old Ashton Zent, and 2-year-old Aubree Zent.

Police say they were found dead in a home in the 2900 block of Gay Street on the morning of June 2.

In court Friday, the prosecutor filed a special notice with Judge Fran Gull to request four life sentences without the possibility of parole.

To accommodate that possibility, the judge added a week to the trial.

The family expressly told the prosecutor they did not want them to pursue the death penalty because they want Hancz-Barron with other inmates in general population, not in isolation on death row.

“I want him to suffer,” Sarah Zent’s mother, Melanie Fields, said. “I want him to experience the entire prison life.”

“I hope he gets beat up every day in prison,” Sarah’s sister, Joselyn Zent, said.

Hancz-Barron is set to appear back in court on December 1.
