A one-day "pay your age" promotion brought hundreds of children and their parents to the Build a Bear Workshop at Glenbrook Square on Thursday, packing the mall -- and beyond -- with eager shoppers.
A line hundreds long stretched into an adjacent corridor and out the door into the lot.
Security guards kept watch and made sure order was kept, as hopefuls waited several hours for their chance to create a creature at a bargain price.
The promotion offered the opportunity for customers to pay their current age in dollars and make "any" furry friend that was available inside the store. Parents or guardians had to first enroll in a "club" program to get the deal.
Massive crowds were turning out at locations across the country, with many stores capping the line before mid-morning and turning away new arrivals. Shortly before noon, Build a Bear posted the following to its Facebook page:
**Urgent Alert: Lines Closed for Pay Your Age Day Event Per local authorities, we cannot accept additional Guests at our locations due to crowds and safety concerns. We have closed lines in our U.S. and Canada stores. We understand some Guests are disappointed and we will reach out directly as soon as possible. ?
