Salvation Army EDS coordinator, Ted Bendler, discusses relief efforts in the aftermath of the Sun Prairie explosion
SUN PRAIRIE, WI (WKOW) -- The Dane County Salvation Army has been on the scene in Sun Prairie offering help in the aftermath of yesterday's explosion. Their Emergency Disaster Services Response Team is handing out food, water and other supplies to first responders.
Organizers say they are overwhelmed by the support they've received from the community, which has allowed them to feed more than 150 people. Ted Bendler, the Salvation Army's EDS coordinator, says he's never seen community turnout like this.
"It's just phenomenal, almost brings tears to your eyes. You know everyone wants to help but not all the help is needed, unfortunately, it's very hard to say no thank you".
Bendler says the role of EDS is to facilitate relief efforts. They take care of details that can be overlooked, like making sure food is served hot for first responders. He says their trucks will be there as long as they're needed.
"We'll be here at least until dinner, then the Sunshine House is taking care of dinner, and then we'll be back tomorrow".
