The site of a deadly shooting last year was destroyed by a fire Wednesday.
Club Royal, formerly known as the Bleu Diamond Lounge, went up in flames around 1 Wednesday afternoon. Fire and smoke poured from the building and firefighters cautiously battled the blaze for nearly an hour in high temperatures.
The general manager of the club told ABC21 there was huge effort to clean up the establishment and fix its reputation after a gunman killed Marcus Rogan and hurt 3 others last year in April. He says the loss in Wednesday's fire is tremendous.
"This was my life from day to night. From the time I went to bed till the time I woke up," Ryan Wesley said. "I mean just the time energy and effort that myself and others have put into this place is just, there's just no words, it's just devastating."
Several of the club's performers lost their costumes and personal things stored in the building, but luckily nobody was inside.
Wesley remains optimistic and says he hopes they will re-build and re-open. The cause of the fire is still under investigation
