FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA 21) -

It's still a little less than a year away, but leaders with Fort Wayne's air base are excited to share some details about the air show happening in 2019.

The Fort Wayne Air Show will indeed feature the United State's Air Force Thunderbirds and F-16's. Along with the flying demonstrations, you'll have a chance to get up close and personal with different kinds of planes, and talk to pilots, engineers and maintainers.

A full list of shows is still in the works but the commander of the 122nd air base tells us the air show is a great way they can share their passion with the community.

"Everything we do at the guard is directly in support of our local community, our state and our nation," Mike Stohler said. "We love the interaction with the local kids, the local community to be able to show them first-hand, up-close what we do on a day to day basis to protect them."

The Air Force only chooses about 32 bases a year to show off the Thunderbirds. Thousands of people from across the region are expected to come to the air show which is slated for July 6th and 7th of 2019.
