Fort Wayne International Airport receives funding for runway rehabilitation

Fort Wayne International will be able to rehabilitate one of their runways thanks to more than $5-million in funding from the federal government.

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced the funding Wednesday. It is awarding $677-million in airport infrastructure grants. 214 airports in 43 states. Fort Wayne International will see $5,440,720 of the grant money.

The grants will fund infrastructure projects that include runways, taxiways, aprons, and terminals. These projects are important to the safety and efficiency of the nation’s system of airports.

“If you want a strong transportation system, you have to invest in airport infrastructure,” said Secretary Chao.  “Airports are the backbone of aviation.  These communities are going to reap greater safety, efficiency, and economic dividends for years to come.”

Other cities in Indiana that will receive funding include Anderson, Gary, Indianapolis, Kokomo and Paoli.
