A man who was formerly a Treasurer for a charitable organization has been arrested for stealing from the organization.
Indiana State Police said they arrested Daniel A. Newport, 53, on Thursday, June 7, pm a felony charge of theft following an investigation that began in December of 2017.
Detective Clint Hetrick said in late December of 2017 he was assigned to investigate an allegation that Newport, who was serving as the Treasurer for the charitable organization known as Guns-N-Hoses, had taken large sums of money from the organization for personal use.
During the investigation, Hetrick said he found that Newport, who was a member of the Fort Wayne Fire Department at the time, had taken upwards of $50,000.00 from the organization between the year 2000 and December 2017.
As a result of the investigation, a warrant was issued for Newport on June 6, 2018. Newport was then incarcerated in the Allen County Jail and has since been released.
