TORCH LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (ABC21) -- An 83-year-old New Haven man is dead after falling 80 feet at waterfalls in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday, troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post responded to a report that a man had fallen while sightseeing at Hungarian Falls with family. A witness told police the man slipped. Hungarian Falls are a series of falls that drop into Torch Lake in Houghton County, Mich.

That man, later identified as Lloyd Gremaux, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An obituary published by Harper's Community Funeral Home states Gremaux was "hiking with family and friends near a waterfall close to his son’s house in Houghton, MI. He was visiting Houghton with other family members to celebrate his grandson’s graduation."

The obituary also states Gremaux served in the army and married his late wife while he was stationed in Germany from 1958 to 1960.

He is survived by his children Tim, Donald, Larry, Julie and Renee; his brother Arnold, and seven grandchildren.
