SACS invites parents to assessment and grading discussion

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA 21) -

A series of meetings over two days provides parents of Southwest Allen County Schools students an opportunity to learn about how their children's progress in the classroom is being evaluated.

The sessions will feature presentations and insights from Dr. Thomas Guskey and Dr. Laura Link, specialists in the area of K-12 assessment. The school corporation has partnered with the duo to "ensure (it is) implementing the most effective practices that are both fair and accurate" when it comes to student grading.

Officials say the meetings will provide parents with:

  • Highlights of our recent SACS Parent Survey
  • An opportunity to give further input on SACS’ assessment and grading practices
  • An overview of future SACS assessment pilots and grading conversations
  • Ideas for how to best help your student with assessments

All sessions will take place at Homestead High School's Community Room. Attendees are asked to enter through door #1.

Meetings will be held:

  • Monday, March 12, 2018  from  4-5 p.m.
  • Monday, March 12, 2018  from  7-8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, March 13, 2018  from  9-10 a.m.
