The defense for the man accused in the Thanksgiving night shooting at a Meijer gas station will have more time to prepare their case.
21-year old Victor Rivera was in court Monday for a pre-trial conference. During Monday's hearing, Rivera's attorney made a motion for a continuance. The request was so there will be a more prepared defense.
The prosecutor in the case objected, saying the state was ready to go to trial. Rivera previously requested a speedy trial. The judge in the case decided the best possible defense should be allowed.
Rivera is accused of killing 25-year-old Jacob Walerko on Thanksgiving night at the Meijer gas station on Lima Road. Reports say Rivera shot Walerko with a sawed-off shotgun before stealing a pack of cigarettes and running off.
