FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA 21) -

The grandfather of a Fort Wayne murder victim braved the elements to try bring attention to the many unsolved murder cases in the summit city.

David Miller's grandson Spencer Smith was murdered in August of this year and so far no suspects have been arrested in this case. This is one of many that remain unsolved in Fort Wayne.

So Thursday, Miller stood outside the Allen County Courthouse holding a sign covered in pictures and messages to his grandson, who was shot and killed at only 20 years old. While his grandson's death was the main inspiration, he said it was about much more than that.

"I'm not just here for Spencer," Miller said. "I'm here for everybody that's been murdered this year, so far 37, a lot of them still open, a lot of them were all guns. I don't think the people of Fort Wayne really know how unsafe they are."

Miller said he is frustrated with the investigation into his grandson's death, adding that he has gone to the mayor's office twice as well as crime stoppers to try and get help solving the case.
