More than 5.7 million people have watched and more than 158,000 people have shared this Facebook video taken outside the Walmart in Celina, Ohio on Nov. 6th.
In the video streamed via Facebook Live, Gary Ahrns shows piles of food, bagged and piled by the dumpster outside the store. Many items are within their marked expiration dates, and Ahrns asks why Walmart did not donate the food to a food pantry.
ABC21 reached out to Walmart officials for a comment on the video. A Walmart communications executive responded to our request with the following statement:
"Unfortunately, due to a tornado that affected our store in Celina, Ohio on November 5, the food being disposed of was unsafe to eat after the store lost power for 14 hours. Per internal and health department policies, we followed proper procedures by disposing of the food.”
