University of Saint Francis to launch student-run record label

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA 21) -

A Fort Wayne university is looking for an artist to sign.

The University of Saint Francis announced Wednesday that a group of students are preparing to launch a new student-run record label in the fall. The record label team will develop and execute a business plan, name the label, scout and sign musical talent, develop a marketing strategy for the signed artist, promote the record label and project ways in which this university-owned enterprise can become self-sustaining.

As part of the project, the group is looking for musical artists to submit work for review. One lucky artist will be selected for the inaugural album. The University said this artist will have their project recorded by USF Music Technology students in the USF recording studios, and also have the opportunity for an original composition to be produced by the Emmy-winning and Grammy, Tony and Drama Desk Award- nominated producer, arranger/composer and music director Rob Mathes (Sting, Panic at The Disco, Yo Yo Ma, Bruce Springsteen, U2, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra).

The music label will premiere the first album at an artist launch/drop party late in the 2018 spring semester. Anyone interested in submitting their work for review should visit go.sf.edu/usfrecordlabel. Submissions will be accepted through October 31.
