75 additional Indiana Michigan Power employees and contractors are heading south to help with the restoration effort.
Indiana Michigan Power said the additional help brings the area's contribution to the effort to more than 350 employees and contractors. Of the additional crews, most are foresters who are going to Georgia to help clear trees, branches and other vegetation from electric equipment and rights of way.
Those previously deployed are foresters and line workers working to restore power in Florida. I&M said line and forestry crews will work 16-hour days to help turn the lights back on. While I&M does not know how long they will be down, a typical deployment is up to two weeks. Some crews could remain longer, and some returning crews could be exchanged with additional employees and contractors.
I&M said more than 30 employees recently returned from Texas after helping restore power in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
