ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA21) -

The trial for the Fort Wayne man who police say ran from the scene of an accident that killed a young couple has been continued.

Justin Votaw faces five charges in connection with the fatal hit-and-run. ABC21 previously reported 23-year-old Jonathan Tracy and 24-year-old Alisa Arseneau died instantly in a fiery three car crash on Jefferson boulevard.

Witnesses told police they saw someone run from scene. Investigators later identified that person as Justin Votaw. Court documents say Votaw went to the hospital the next day and told nurses he'd been the driver in a crash the night before, but he never called 911 to report it.

The court case was continued past the originally scheduled October 3rd date because the defense is seeking expert testimony on whether Votaw could have suffered brain injury after he claimed he could not remember running away from the scene of fatal car crash he was involved in.

A new trial date has not been selected.
